The Ulla Johnson Wardrobe Edit: Exceptional Knits, Beautiful Separates & Everyday Romance

Ulla Johnson knitwear, skirts, denim and tailoring for an everyday wardrobe

Ulla Johnson builds an everyday wardrobe from cable knits, embroidered skirts, embellished denim and soft tailoring. This edit gathers 32 in-stock pieces from NET-A-PORTER and Mytheresa that work together.

Ulla Johnson knitwear and separates available now

Ulla Johnson knitwear and separates available now are organized here into four groups: sweaters and cardigans, midi and maxi skirts, denim and light layers, and coats and tailoring. The label has made handwork its signature since launching in 2000, so even basics such as a cardigan or a pair of jeans usually carry beading, sequins or embroidery.

This edit includes 32 pieces from NET-A-PORTER and Mytheresa. For blouses to wear with these separates, see the Ulla Johnson Blouse Edit, and for dresses, the Ulla Johnson Dress Edit. The Ulla Johnson New Arrivals Edit shows the wider season.

Ulla Johnson knitwear: cable-knit sweaters and cardigans

The Ulla Johnson knits in this edit are made in wool, cashmere and merino, and the best of them have visible stitch work. The Marlie embellished cable-knit wool and cashmere-blend sweater, the Olivia cable-knit bead-embellished wool and cashmere-blend cardigan and the Anna embellished merino wool cardigan carry beading and are the most decorative.

The Cassia pointelle-knit cashmere cardigan and the Mia striped pointelle-knit cardigan are lighter, and the Camille ruffled ribbed-knit merino wool turtleneck sweater, the Albie ribbed-knit turtleneck sweater and the Ronan cropped open-knit wool sweater are simpler layers. A beaded cardigan over a slip skirt is a good place to start.

Ulla Johnson skirts: midi and maxi shapes

The Ulla Johnson skirts in this edit are all midi or maxi length, which makes them easy to pair with a knit or a boot. The Azaria merino wool midi skirt, the Clio striped pointelle-knit midi skirt, the Leona crochet-knit ribbed midi skirt and the Alessia knitted jacquard midi skirt are knit-based and comfortable.

The Meadow floral silk chiffon midi skirt and the Alice embroidered tiered cotton midi skirt are lighter and more romantic, and The Verona sequin-embellished denim midi skirt and The Madelyn embellished paneled denim maxi skirt bring denim with decoration. Pair any of them with a plain sweater and let the skirt lead.

Ulla Johnson denim and light layers

Ulla Johnson denim is cut in clean shapes and finished with embellishment. The Bobbi cropped sequin-embellished denim jacket is the statement layer, and The Stretch Valory Flare high-rise jeans, The Jasmine belted low-rise wide-leg jeans, The Colette embellished high-rise straight-leg jeans, The Genevieve high-rise wide-leg jeans and the Lou flared jeans from Mytheresa cover flared, wide-leg and straight shapes.

For lighter layers, the Brielle scalloped pointelle-knit cashmere tank and the Zehra belted cotton blazer work under or over denim. Choose the cut first, then decide how much embellishment you want.

Ulla Johnson coats, blazers and trousers, and how to wear them together

The Ulla Johnson coats and tailoring in this edit are the heaviest pieces. The Rory double-breasted belted brushed wool and cashmere-blend coat and the Fernanda belted felted wool and cashmere-blend coat are the outerwear, and the Ellery belted velvet blazer with the Elan velvet wide-leg pants from Mytheresa make a matching velvet set.

For trousers, the Edlyn pleated duchess-satin barrel-leg pants, the Carine crinkled-satin flared pants, the Sawyer silk crêpe de chine wide-leg pants and the Freja suede flared pants cover several fabrics. My suggestion is to start with one knit and one skirt, then add a coat when the weather turns. For more outfit ideas, see Ulla Johnson tops, blouses and knitwear.
