Modern Office Wardrobe: Softer Tailoring and Workwear

Office dressing came back softer and looser. Shop 16 blazers, tanks, midi dresses and jewelry from Miu Miu, MILLY and Balenciaga.

The shoes, the bags, the belt

This is where the discipline lives. Leather platform loafers and slingbacks in three different registers, a medium tote that is unmistakably a work bag, a small structured shoulder bag for the days it is not. The suede belt is the detail that dates the look to now; belts came back with the return of proper waistbands, and they are the cheapest way to make a loose silhouette read as deliberate.

Everything that isn't a shoe or a bag

The clothes are doing much less than the accessories, which is the point. A checked wool blazer, a cropped denim jacket, a wool and cashmere jacket, a draped wool midi dress, a belted midi skirt, a cotton jersey tank. Layers that can be shed in a warm room. The gold pendant and the embellished steel watch sit somewhere between clothing and equipment, which is exactly the register this wardrobe wants.

To finish the outfit, I wrote about the best jewelry for the office, small pieces that stay out of the way of a keyboard.

Our honest take

The mistake is buying the whole silhouette at once, which is how you end up looking like you are in a costume of employment. Everything here works because it is mixed with things that are not workwear at all. A cropped denim jacket in this grid is not an accident.
