Aigner's Equitania collection for Fall/Winter 2026 is built around the horse, with saddle brown, cognac and burgundy leather bags at its center. This guide covers the handbags, small leather goods and scarves worth buying for the holidays, plus the history behind the horseshoe A and how the leather is made.

What Is Aigner Known For, and What Is in the New Equitania Collection
Aigner is a Munich leather goods house known for the horseshoe-shaped A on its handbags, and its newest collection, Equitania for Fall/Winter 2026, is built entirely around the horse. The campaign was shot at Schloss Amerang, an equestrian estate in the Bavarian Alpine foothills, by photographer Andreas Ortner with model Franziska Knuppe. The palette moves through Saddle Brown, Cognac, Burgundy and Soil Brown, softened by greys and blues, and the materials are nappa leather, fine suede and calfskin. Every look treats the handbag as the centerpiece, from the deep brown Paola to the Farah worn with a silk scarf and special editions of the Cybill.
That makes Aigner a useful answer to two shopping questions at once. As a holiday gift, a leather piece carrying the horseshoe A suits someone who already knows the name and someone who does not, because the logo is small and the leather does the talking. For your own wardrobe, one saddle brown or cognac bag finishes a fall outfit faster than another garment will, whether the rest of the look is a camel coat, dark denim or a plain black dress.

How Aigner Leather Goods Are Made, and Which Pieces Make the Best Gifts
Aigner leather goods are made in Italy, and the brand lists grained cowhide as the material of its core Cybill handbags. The Italian base dates to 1972, when Aigner founded a subsidiary near Florence to run leather production, while bags and accessories are designed in Munich. Since 2019 the Munich headquarters has also housed an in-house Modelleria, the Italian term for a model-making studio, and an archive of past designs that follows the Cybill through its many special editions.
For gifting, small leather goods carry the same material and the same horseshoe as the handbags with far less guesswork. A wallet or card case is a safe first Aigner piece because it needs no decision about size or shoulder drop. Grained leather tends to hide scratches better than smooth leather, so a wallet that spends the winter in a coat pocket keeps its look. Pick a color the recipient already wears, and when unsure, choose cognac, brown or black.

The Horseshoe and the Horse: Where Aigner Comes From
Etienne Aigner was born in Hungary in 1904, trained as a bookbinder, and learned leather that way before moving to Paris in the 1930s. After the war he made belts and bags for retailers including Dior, Lanvin and Rochas, and in 1950 he moved to New York and began selling under his own name. His monogram, a letter A drawn as a horseshoe, became the logo, and Aigner chief executive Sybille Schoen has described the horseshoe as a sign of good luck.
Short of money in New York, he reportedly made belts in a single color, a rich burgundy, because it was the only material he could afford, and red-leaning shades are still a house signature. In 1965 the Aigner name came to Munich through businessman Heiner Rankl, and the company has been based there ever since. The horse now returns in the Equitania campaign and in the equestrian-motif scarf below, which carries equestrian motifs in a burgundy and rust print.

The leather worth buying
Aigner is strongest in leather: the structured Cybill, the suede Zaira and Whip, and the small leather goods. We would skip the logo-print pieces unless the recipient already loves the brand, because the horseshoe A is more convincing sitting quietly on good leather than repeated across fabric. This is also not the label for anyone chasing a trend bag that will feel dated by spring, and it is not the cheapest way into real leather, so a gift for someone who wants a louder designer name will land better elsewhere.
Buy the leather piece in saddle brown, cognac or burgundy. Those are the shades the house built its name on, and they will match more of the recipient's wardrobe than any print or trend color will.
